Who We Are
Homagama “Suhada Seniors” (SSCS) is an elderly welfare and community‑supporting organization.
We are part of a nationwide network of 10,000 Senior Citizens’ Societies across Sri Lanka, operating under the Act of Elderly Care Law, governed by the National Secretariat for Elders under the Ministry of Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment.
We are committed to:
– Promoting dignity and respect for senior citizens.
– Supporting welfare through structured programs and community engagement.
– Strengthening community bonds by encouraging elders to actively participate in cultural, social, vocational, and recreational activities.
– Collecting donations and aid to support member welfare — from medical assistance to daily essentials — ensuring every contribution makes a direct impact on the lives of senior citizens in the Homagama area
The Senior Citizens’ Society movement in Sri Lanka began in the late 1980s, when the government recognized the urgent need to address the challenges of an aging population. With the establishment of the National Secretariat for Elders, local societies were formed across districts to provide structured care, social inclusion, and welfare support.
Homagama “Suhada Seniors” (SSCS) was founded as part of this nationwide initiative, with a vision to elevate elder welfare beyond sympathy — focusing instead on practical, high‑quality care and empowerment. Over the years, SSCS has grown into a respected community hub, offering cultural programs, vocational training, medical aid, and recreational opportunities for hundreds of elders in the Homagama region.
